Java Programming Language is a general-purpose, concurrent, strongly typed, class-based, object-oriented language.It is normally compiled to the byte code instruction set and binary format defined in the Java virtual machine.
History Of Java
Java programming language evolved from a language named "Oak". Oak was developed in the early nineties by Sun Microsystems. Oak's name was changed to Java. Java was originally developed by James Gosling at Sun Microsystems and released in 1995.

There are three Editions of Java they are :
Java SE (Standard Edition)
Java SE use to develop Desktop Applications which runs on stand alone computers and computers that network using LAN
Java EE (Enterprise Edition)
Java EE use to develop Web Applications
Java ME (Micro Edition)
Java ME use to develop Applications for mobile phones but after the arrival of the android OS Java ME is now not commonly in use for mobile application development. But present days Java ME use for Satellite Programming
Platform Independence (Write Once Run Anywhere)
We can write a Java code on one computer platform (Operating System such as Windows, Linux, Mac OS) and we can run it on another computer platform with out any difficulties.
example: We have create a Java program on windows platform and we want to run that program on Linux platform here we don't want to do any modification to our original code. We can run that program on Linux normally.
Object Orientation
Java is a pure object-oriented language. The means that everything in a Java program is an object and everything descended from a root object class.(I will teach you guys what is object Orientation with more details in future post).
